Harris Sondak was elected to the first seat of the Alta Town Council in the Nov. 8, 2011 election by a majority of votes received. According to Utah State statute, a coin was flipped to select the second at large seat of the Council, after there was a tie vote confirmed by the Salt Lake Election Office between incumbant, Steve "Piney" Gilman and challenger, Merebea Danforth.  The call in the air was "tails", the coin landed heads, and the candidate selected was Steve "Piney" Gilman.

The Town Council, acting as the Board of Canvassers, approved the final election results and the rest is history, (literally).  Click here to view the official election returns
